Tampere University Singers

We are a mixed choir functioning within Tampere University (Tampereen Yliopiston Laulajat, TYL) with our singers however representing all walks of life. Our repertoire consists of classical choir music with a lot of variety, pieces' styles ranging from church music to modern choral compositions and folk songs. Along with learning the pieces, our choir focuses on maintaining its unified sound that is an important element in the choir's musical values.

Next auditions will be held at the beginning of the autumn season 2025. 

If you think you can sing and feel like joining a qualified group of choristers, don't hesitate to join our choir! Our singers do not need to be students in any of the higher education institutions in Tampere - You are welcome to the choir regardless of your education level or situation in life.

Exchange students are very welcome too, provided that you can attend the rehearsals on Tuesday evenings and are still in Finland when we have our concerts. You do not need to speak Finnish, as there will always be someone among the singers to translate all necessary instructions when needed.

On spring 2025 weekly rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 17h45 to 20h45. The rehersals are held at Linna building on Tampere University city centre campus, room K104 (Kalevantie 5). There are typically three concerts per year, two in Autumn and one in Spring.

In addition to rehearsing and performing, we spend many cheerful moments together in more casual occasions such as going for drinks after rehearsals and throwing parties after concerts. We have a warm and kind community!

Join via our auditions

We hold auditions twice a year; They are announced on this website and in our social media accounts usually towards the beginning of each semester (January and September).

The audition includes some simple tasks measuring your voice and tune and a song of your choice without accompaniment. At the audition you can choose freely what you want to sing, in any language you want. We recommend that you choose something that you are comfortable to sing a capella. Many candidates choose simple traditional songs, because it is near to the classical style of the choir repertoire. The idea is that we can hear what your voice sounds like, and evaluate if your voice type is fit for the choir.

Want us to come sing at your event?

In addition to our regular concerts, we perform at events and parties. For most events, we recommend a 15–20 minute performance by a group of 4–8 of our talented singers. If you wish, you may even book the entire choir of 60 singers to perform at your event!

Our event manager will be more than happy to help you out with all your choral music needs. You can plan the perfect set of songs from our vast repertoire. That's about all you need to worry about! Our event manager will take care of finding the appropriate singers and they'll show up at your event on the agreed date and time! Any event can be spiced up by our singers, be it a wedding, funeral, graduation party, or even a talk show on prime time TV! Let us know what you need!

Our prices for a 4–8 singer group performing for 15–20 minutes start at 350 €.
